Services
How the service is organised
How we intend to run SEND, school and private-hire journeys. Timings and site rules are agreed school by school, so the specifics below are the shape rather than the schedule.
SEND & council school transport
Office-led routes, with a passenger assistant where the route needs one.
Council SEND offer →Private-hire (pre-book & on-demand)
The fare before you travel, not after. Booking happens in the app.

The school day
A school transport day has two moments that matter and a lot of waiting in between. In the morning, the child needs to be collected on time by someone they recognise and handed over to a member of staff who is expecting them. At the end of the day the same in reverse, with the added complication that finish times move. Velgo is built around those handover points: who is meeting whom, where, and who to tell when it changes. The office holds that picture so reception does not have to.
Communication rules
Most transport frustration is really communication frustration — the same question asked three times because nobody is sure who owns the answer. Our rule is that routine updates go through agreed channels, and that anything sensitive does not go into a broad message at all. Notifications carry no child details. School staff get what they need to run their gate, families get what they need to plan their morning, and neither has to chase a driver directly.
Disruption days
On a bad day the useful thing an operator can do is tell you early and tell you once. Traffic, weather, an unexpected absence, an early finish nobody passed on — these are normal, and the difference between a manageable day and a bad one is usually whether the school found out from us or from a parent at the gate. Disruption handling stays office-led: one source, agreed channels, and a note of what was decided so the next conversation starts from facts.
Getting started
Starting with a new operator should take one meeting and a form, not a term of back-and-forth. We agree the handover points, who receives updates, what happens when a route runs late, and who at your end owns the relationship. Then we do a route in practice before we do it with a child in the vehicle. We are not taking bookings yet — but if you want to be in the first group of schools when we launch, this is the conversation to have now.
